50 Over 50 Photography in Minneapolis

50 over 50 photography is a studio project that photographs women who are fifty and older, pairing each set of images with a filmed interview in her own words. Inna runs it from her studio in Northeast Minneapolis, and the women you’ll meet below come from across the Twin Cities.

It isn’t a makeover. Nobody here is being fixed. The point is to get a woman in front of the camera, let her talk about the life she’s actually had, and hand back images she recognizes as herself.

Some women arrive braced for a “fifty and fabulous” cliché and leave with something quieter than that. The project is open to teachers, nurses, business owners, grandmothers, women in their 50s and women well past 80. No audition. No experience needed. One thing we tell every woman who calls is that feeling awkward on camera is normal, and it is not a reason to stay invisible.

How to Take Part in the 50 over 50 Project

Taking part starts with a chat, not a booking form. Call the studio, say you’re interested, and Inna will set up a consultation to work out what you want these images to say about you.

Who can take part in the project?

Any woman over the age of fifty. Women in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond are welcome, in different shapes and sizes. No shortlist, no gatekeeping.

What a session looks like

  1. Consultation. You and Inna settle outfits, background, and mood before session day, so nothing is improvised at the last minute.
  2. Styling. Ask about hair and make-up when you book. Most clients want it, and it changes how they carry themselves once the lights are on.
  3. The photo session. Plan on more than one outfit change and expect to be guided through every pose. Nobody nails the first ten frames, and that’s fine.
  4. The interview. Women in the project also sit for a short filmed conversation about their own story. Those films are what you’re watching below.
  5. The reveal. You see the finished images together and decide which ones are worth printing large.

Think about how you want to be captured before you arrive. Bring clothes you already like. We tell every client the same thing: the outfit you keep reaching for in your own closet photographs better than something bought for the occasion. The studio in Northeast Minneapolis is open for a look first.

Meet the Women of the 50 over 50 Project

The project is built around 50 women, each one photographed and each one interviewed. Watch two or three of the films below before you call. They say more than a gallery can. They celebrate the women in them, and they inspire the next one who has been putting this off.

What is 50 over 50 Photography?

It’s a celebration of diversity, strength, beauty, and the wisdom of women who have lived past fifty, told through images and in their own voices. Inna helps create, share, and celebrate their stories, and she tells them with authentic images and real stories about the women.

Through her Fifty over Fifty women’s project, Inna shows that beauty doesn’t diminish with age. By highlighting character, wisdom and spirit, she helps tell their stories, and she appreciates every scar, line, and grey hair instead of editing it away.

Whether you feel invisible, empowered, or somewhere in between, know that you are loved and needed, and that your story is important. This is your chance to be seen and heard.

An accomplished, award-winning professional family photographer, Inna is creating stunning portraits of fifty women over the age of fifty, in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond, culminating in an exhibition: a celebration of these women and their stories. Her state-of-the-art studio, Inna Portraits, sits in Northeast Minneapolis. If something more private appeals to you, a boudoir session covers similar ground for women over 50.

So don’t postpone. Booking 50 over 50 photography takes one call. TALK with Inna now, or have Inna CALL YOU when it suits you. If you’d rather know who is behind the camera, read more about Inna, then ask for the next consultation date.
